By Amy Guerich, Founder/Owner The Palmer
Two of the questions that I often get when I tell people that I started The Palmer, a historic home turned Airbnb, bridal suite, and event space, is “why St. Marys?” Or they ask, “who would want to come to St. Marys?” These questions always surprise me. I always think “why NOT St. Marys?”

First of all, my family has roots in St. Marys. On my paternal grandmother’s side, my family has been in St. Marys for six generations. My great-great-great grandmother was a Potawatomi Indian, and she married an Irish immigrant who immigrated from Ireland in the 1830s. They had a daughter who also married an Irish immigrant, James Doyle, and they had a daughter, my great grandmother, who married a second generation American born Irishman, my great grandfather, Tom Pearl. Tom Pearl’s grandfather came over from Ireland and settled in Pennsylvania before coming to the St. Marys area in the 1880s. Our roots run deep. Our ancestors were some of the founders of St. Marys, and I take extreme pride in that.
You can read here about my time spent in St. Marys all my life. https://houseonpalmer.com/about/
Today, St. Marys is such a wonderful town. Although there are still families like mine who have been around for generations, but for the last three generations, its residents come from all over the country, and the world to live in Small Town America. Secondly, there is a group of this newer generation of St. Marys residents, including St. Marys Arts and Sounds St. Marys Arts & Sounds who care deeply about bringing neighbors together to work for a St. Marys that is a great place to live and work for generations to come. I want to be a part of that. I want to do my part.
Most know that my core business, or my “day job” is owning and operating financial planning firm ,https://steppandrothwell.com/ and our firm has clients in St. Marys, and I want to support our clients buy giving back to the community.
On top of all I’ve already mentioned, it is such a beautiful town! From Main Street, to Riverside Park, to the Railroad park, the Indian Pay Station, and more, it is a great town for The Palmer. I absolutely love seeing all of the visitors on Main Street grabbing coffee at MJs, shopping at Florence Adam’s, getting lunch and stocking up on dry goods at Sugar Creek, and picking up a bouquet at Poppy + Co. This is the future of St. Marys, and it is a future that I want to support with my time, my hard work, and my wallet. When you book The Palmer, you are supporting that future. We’d love to host you while you check out our charming community.
